Limousin Region of France
The region of Limousin is located just to the south of central France and comprises of three departments, Correze, Haute Vienne and Creuse. Its capital is Limoges which features a busy airport just to the north of the city.
It is proving a very popular spot for immigrants to move to, particularly from Northern Europe including the UK. It is one of the lowest populated regions in all of France; in fact its estimated total population of around 727,000 is smaller than that of the city of Marseilles.
Due to its low population, it has been largely untouched by "progress", and so has been left as one of Europe’s most beautiful and natural environments with forests, hills and valleys unspoiled. It is truly a beautiful region.
Despite being largely untouched, the toll free A20 autoroute does cut through it making access to the north or south quite straightforward.
It has an abundance of history, dating well before Roman times, to inspiring painters like Monet and even the resting place of Richard the Lionheart is found in the region.
Its climate can be quite extreme. Due to the lowest parts of it being at least 250m above sea level, winters can be harsh and long, but in contrast, summers on average, yield around 2000 hours of sunshine a year, a similar amount to the southern city of Toulouse and are not overbearing.
For the fishermen out there, Limousin offers quality rivers, such as the Creuse, Dordogne, Cher and Vienne and the region is particularly famous for its quality of water.
House prices are generally lower than the national average, so a new lifestyle in a beautiful rural setting can be attained very easily.
